Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine Provide consultant leadership and senior clinical decision-making across the Acute Medicine Service. Deliver consultant-led ward rounds, multidisciplinary board rounds and timely review of patients within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), and Hospital at Home (George Eliot @ Home). Support the development of SDEC, Hospital at Home, and ambulatory pathways to improve patient outcomes and reduce unnecessary admissions. Work collaboratively with the Emergency Department, Frailty Assessment Unit, Ambulatory Care Unit, Gastro Day Unit, specialty teams and community services to deliver integrated patient care. Participate in the General Internal Medicine (GIM) on-call rota and the Acute Medicine weekend rota. Lead and contribute to service improvement, quality improvement, clinical governance and audit activities. Supervise, teach and support resident doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team. Contribute to the ongoing development of Acute Medicine services, ensuring pathways reflect national best practice and local service priorities. Participate in the Acute Medicine and General Internal Medicine (GIM) on-call rota. Participate in the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, audit, quality improvement initiatives and all aspects of the clinical governance agenda. Demonstrate flexibility in undertaking appropriate clinical duties as requested by the Clinical Lead to meet service requirements. Actively contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, providing supervision, teaching and support for doctors in training, advanced clinical practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team. Maintain and, where appropriate, develop a specialist clinical interest that complements the needs of the Trust and Acute Medicine Service. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with General Practitioners, community providers and external partner organisations. Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and statutory requirements, including Health and Safety, Information Governance, Data Protection, Incident Reporting and Standing Financial Instructions. Maintain high standards of clinical practice through participation in Clinical Governance, Risk Management, audit and service evaluation. Take responsibility for the educational supervision, appraisal and professional development of trainee doctors in accordance with national guidance.
